Today, Husted, Maud, and I participated in a 6-hour hike through the mountains near Prilep. We hiked up to the point called Kartush, and after descended to a monastery named Sveti Demitrija. Over 250 people participated on the hike, so at times when the path was narrow, hiking felt more like waiting in a queue than exploring the Macedonian mountainside. Once we arrived at the monastery, we received manja so gravche (Macedonian-style beans), refreshments (including beer), and a sticker to commemorate our feat.
I have no idea what the history is behind this march. Supposedly this was the 9th year that it was organized, and it seemed to commemorate some musician, but I do not know why he is remembered thus. In the end, it was a perfect excuse to enjoy a beautiful spring day in Macedonia and to wake up early on a Sunday morning. Since I have written such lengthy posts over the past month, this post will be very picture heavy. Enjoy!
